Unfortunately, so many of the home cleaning products we find scattered across the supermarket shelves are filled with chemicals and toxins that have potential health risks. Yet much of the population purchase these regardless, completely oblivious as to what’s hidden inside!

If you wouldn’t put potentially toxic chemicals on your skin, or ingest them, then you definitely should not be surrounding yourself with them within your own home. Luckily, there are actually plenty of alternatives available which are 100% non-toxic. Whether you want to purchase a brand or make some of these yourself, here are the top 4 cleaning products you should opt for to make the switch to a toxin-free home.

  1. DIY all-purpose cleaner

With only 3 ingredients (1 cup water, 2 teaspoons castile soap, 20 drops essential oil), you can actually make your own cleaning spray at home! Put this in a reusable spray bottle and no need to purchase plastic non-degradable cleaner bottles anymore.

  1. Homemade laundry detergent

Do away with the toxic chemicals, dyes, and irritants in countless laundry soaps on the market, and opt for a cleaner alternative where you know exactly what’s in it. There are plenty of simple homemade recipes online for making this. An added bonus is that it’s actually cheaper as well, and just as effective as its store-bought counterparts! Whip up a large batch and you’ll be set for weeks.

  1. Natural glass and window cleaner

This one is surprisingly simple. Just mix 2 teaspoons of white vinegar with 1 litre of warm water, then use a cotton cloth to wipe down the glass surfaces around your home. Avoid doing this when the sun is shining directly on these surfaces, otherwise you’ll risk leaving streaks behind!

  1. Essential oils and aroma diffusers

Use essential oils with aroma diffusers as a non-toxic alternative to air fresheners, as a cleaner way of filling your home with purifying scents. There are also a variety of lavender, tea tree and eucalyptusbased sprays which are excellent for disinfecting surfaces.

You’ll be surprised at the difference it will make when you reduce your usage of toxins around the house, by staying away from toxin-filled cleaning products. Start your transition to a cleaner, greener, and healthier home today!
