Just because you live in an apartment, doesn’t mean you need to compromise on the décor of your dreams. Here are three smart space ideas, perfect for those on a budget as well as living in a small apartment.

  1. Take It Down a Level

When you don’t have the room for a proper set of chairs much less a table to accompany your living area sofa, let some floor pillows to the job. Everyone will be able to sit, enjoy and feel comfortable in the space. Plus, if you find some colourful options they can help brighten up the room perfectly. Don’t get stuck on convention, floor pillows are the perfect way to allow for tons of space and make a comfortable area for guest to visit.

  1. Convert Your Closet

Often apartments are great with storage offerings, and – especially if you live alone or just with your partner – you may find you have no use for so many closets. If this is the case, consider converting your closet into something you can use. We recommend removing all of the shelving and sliding in a narrow width desk to create a study. Or, even a vanity if that’s more to your liking. Depending on the location of it, you may even feel you can remove the closet doors. But if you want to be able to pack away your new little space for when guests arrive, simple close those closet doors and voila!

If you have an unused spare bedroom, that built-in robe could be the perfect spot for the TV that doesn’t quite fit. Do you have a hallway closet with so much linen space you’re thinking about buying more just to fill it? Remove the doors and shelving, slide in a hall table with a mirror above, add in some decorations and you have the perfect little hallway nook. Or, convert that hallway closet into a bookshelf! Get creative with your closets, don’t just think of them as… well, a closet. They have the possibility to be so much more.

  1. The Illusion of More Space

If your apartment feels small and dark, the absolute easiest way to brighten it up and make it feel bigger: mirrors! Have a look at where the outside light is coming in and create the illusion of more light with some well-placed mirrors. They have the added benefit of adding more depth to a space, making it feel much larger than it is. You really can’t go wrong with a few mirrors in any apartment. Plus, what an affordable way to decorate your home!

Here are just three of many affordable and easy ways to decorate your apartment on a budget. Simply, get creative and think outside the box and you’ll have the spaces in your home that you always dreamed of having.
