As property prices soar, an increasing number of people rent while they save up to buy a home. Leasing comes with restrictions and limitations since you’re not the official owner of the place. However, that shouldn’t stop you from taking advantage of these 5 tips to make your rental feel like home.

  1. Re-imagine the flooring

Perhaps you’re stuck with an old-fashioned carpet, or you’re not a huge fan of the cold tiles. Utilise large rugs and mats to transform the flooring, making it homier while matching your personal style.

  1. Get creative with the lighting

The majority of rental properties just feature standard downlights. Bring the space to life with statement lamps, whether they’re decorative floor lamps at the edge of the room or dainty desk lamps on open surfaces.

  1. Add a natural indoor touch

There are plenty of ways you can incorporate some natural greenery in your rental, even if you don’t have a yard! Balcony gardens are a particularly popular option – allowing you to grow herbs or flowers. If you don’t have a green thumb but love the natural look, you can even decorate the place with artificial plants instead.

  1. Revitalise the windows

Don’t settle for less with the drab curtains already there. Choose a style and material to suit the rooms, and add attractive drapery around the windows. Whether you prefer neutral colours or bolder patterns, it’s totally up to you.

  1. Damage-free decorations for the walls

Since you’re not allowed to drill holes for built-in wall hooks, opt for removable hooks that won’t damage the walls. Use lighter canvases rather than heavy wooden frames, to reduce the risk of wall damage. Additionally, consider leaning large mirrors or artworks against the wall, whether it’s on the floor, on a mantlepiece or on existing shelving.

Breathe new life into the place you’re renting with these 5 simple tips. Transform your indoor space, add a touch of individuality and uniqueness, and make the space feel like home.
